Less early turnover starts with an honest picture of the work

When I was involved at Aethon as a consultant seven years ago, this question was already alive. The fact that we've now solved it together with Selection Lab makes this collaboration extra valuable.

The Challenge

At Aethon, a problem had been at play for years that many care organizations will likely recognize. People started their roles full of good intentions, but sometimes discovered in their first weeks that the job was different from what they had pictured. Not because they didn't have a heart for care, but because the reality of the work can simply be different from the image you have beforehand. And that was where the challenge sat. Because if candidates only discover what a role really demands of them after they start, doubts, drop-off, and early turnover follow more easily. That doesn't just cost money, time, and energy — it puts pressure on the quality and continuity of care. As Matthijs put it: “When I was involved at Aethon as a consultant seven years ago, this question was already alive. The fact that we've now solved it together with Selection Lab makes this collaboration extra valuable.”

The Solution

Together with Byner and Aethon, we redesigned the process. Not with separate tools or extra manual steps, but with one integrated flow of chat, Situational Judgement, and interview scheduling — fully connected to the ATS. The power of that approach lies especially in the Situational Judgement Test. It doesn't just show how a candidate reacts in a specific situation, but also gives a more honest picture of the work environment. And that is crucial in care. Working in elderly care isn't just having a chat or a coffee — it requires dealing with situations that are intense, unpredictable, and sometimes confronting. By letting candidates experience that beforehand, they know much better what they're getting into. And that helps them honestly assess whether the role really suits them.

The Results

As DPD partnered with The Selection Lab, they created more structure in their process through uniform selection and interview questions. This resulted in a 4 out of 5 star candidate experience and a more efficient selection process for both candidates and recruiters.

The Results

Fewer drop-offs

Through a seamless integration of chat, SJT, and interview scheduling.
