Business Numeracy at Work Assessment

A discount proposal that looks like 8 percent but is 12 percent. A price tier that lands differently at 500 units than at 501. A discount-on-a-discount calculated wrongly twice. Business numeracy isn't mathematics and isn't aptitude, but the practical skill of recognising, checking and calculating daily numerical situations without defaulting to the calculator. The Business Numeracy Assessment measures in 20 multiple-choice questions whether a candidate has that skill. Percentages, margins, tiers, ratios, fractions and the classic traps that appear daily in quotes, contracts and dashboards. Under time pressure, as in real work.

3 Reasons we love this assessment

01
Work numeracy, not school maths
No roots, no formulas, no squares. Just percentages, margins, tiers and ratios as they appear daily in quotes and dashboards. The test measures practical application, not abstract mathematics.
02
Without a calculator
What you need on hand in meetings and client conversations sits in your head, not in your phone. The test checks what a candidate can compute in the first ten seconds, not what they can verify afterwards in Excel.
03
The classic traps
Discount on discount, VAT on exports, price jumps at tier crossings, wrong ratios in dashboards. The test shows examples and measures which mistakes a candidate spots before they land in a quote.

Information

Percentages and margins

The most-used, most-misused numerical language in business. Absolute versus relative increases, gross versus net, discount versus mark-up. Everyday, and daily miscalculated.

Tiers and price scales

Where numbers jump at thresholds. What happens at 100 versus 101 units, at crossing a revenue threshold, at a rate transition. The skill of recognising the jump points and calculating correctly across them.

Ratios and fractions

Quick mental maths at work level: one in three, two thirds more, halving without a calculator. The skill of holding ratios in mind during a conversation.

Number interpretation

Understanding what a number does and does not say. Absolute versus relative, short versus long term, mean versus median. The critical side of numeracy: not just calculating, but reading.

The Big Five Personality Model assesses key personality traits that influence behavior and performance:

Green key icon symbolizing security or access.

Percentages and margins

Command of percentage calculations, discounts, mark-ups and margin transformations in a business context.

Orange planet with irregular surface markings resembling craters or patches.

Ratios and tiers

Calculating with fractions, ratios, price tiers and the jumps that come with them.

Orange icon of a plus sign inside a dotted square.

Mental arithmetic without tools

Fast mental calculations at work level, without calculator or spreadsheet, precise enough for a decision in the conversation.

Green thumbs-up icon symbolizing approval or like.

Spotting numerical errors

Recognising miscalculated figures in quotes, dashboards and reports before they reach the client or leadership.
